O’osha Gibbs always wanted little sisters. Now, she has fifteen. The Pink Pearls were created by her and her mother, Stevette, in 2014 to empower young girls and push them to achieve. The organization was catalyzed when a friend rejected Stevette’s offer to stay with them, explaining that she didn’t want her daughter’s wild behavior to affect O’osha. That night, Stevette had the idea to start the Pink Pearls. The Pink Pearls currently have 16 members, ages 3-18 years old. The citizens of Elizabeth City can see the Pink Pearls doing community service, dancing or hanging out on a regular basis.

“To be a pink pearl, there’s really no standards you have to meet as long as you carry yourself like a young lady and like a Pearl.”
