The Art of Transformation
Produced by Dallia Lindell
Record-breaking flood waters overwhelmed the River Arts District in Asheville, N.C. in September 2024. The French Broad River severely damaged and swept away art studios and creative spaces in the area. Works of art and supplies were found abandoned in the aftermath of the hurricane, and many lost their livelihoods. Today, the district still sits unrepaired from the hurricane’s damage.
Julieta Fumberg, a multidisciplinary artist located in the Pink Dog Creative studio, weaves her story of overcoming loss through watercolor, acrylics, graphic design and photography. She uses her talents to inspire others and bring hope to the viewers of her artwork. Julieta takes her bold, urban, and disruptive style to new heights as she calls on her Argentine culture to make her mark in the River Arts District community. Her experience of loss, though endured differently, led her to connect with the thing that destroyed what she loved— nature.
“It’s part of life; because if you don’t have death, then you live forever, and then life is not as precious,” Fumberg said.
