Project Description

Life in the Fun Lane

By Alice Hudson

David Harrell, 61, spends his days focused on what makes him, and everyone around him, happy. In terms of work, Harrell is the assistant manager at Albemarle Lanes Bowling Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He is there almost every night and would not have it any other way. He loves to see his customers having a good time and bowling a few games to relax.

During his time off, Harrell plays online videogames. He enjoys the Call of Duty franchise the most. He plays these games intensely through their completion. Harrell finds it especially funny when he can hear the teenage players asking who the person on the other end of the computer is. He takes pride in the fact that he is a good deal older than those that he plays against.

Harrell has found his passion in life through games and is an advocate for fun. He stresses the importance of enjoying what you are doing and smiling through it all, looking through a lens of positivity on his everyday experiences.

“If you don’t have fun, if you don’t smile, if you don’t laugh, you’re not going to live. That’s just the way it is.” -David Harrell
