Mama Addie

“Mama Addie” is the story of one of the most selfless people I have ever met.
When she isn’t working, Addie Shuford, or better known as Mama Addie, is out in the community making sure people are off the streets and safe. Although Mama Addie has had to deal with an incredible amount of adversity in her life, she still wears a smile on her face and makes sure to put others before herself.
She is up from 4:30 till 1am working two jobs, driving others around, and even volunteering to be Bandys High School’s sports “Team Mom.” This is her story.
Addie Shuford is known around her community in Catawba County for being the “Community Mom.” She is a single mother who has raised four of her own children and fostered many others.
Shuford is up from 4:30am until 1am working at her two jobs, driving others around, and even taking care of Bandys High School’s sports teams.
“I think in due time, the Lord to heal wounds, but this is what keeps me going in life is the community work. My sports, my basketball, my football, my softball, my track,” said Shuford.
“If one of my kids gets hurt, no matter what sport it is, I'm out there on the field, on the court with my sports trainer. Just like, they one of mine,” said Shuford.
“When I look out and look at this world in the turmoil it’s in, our young people, that's what keeps me positive,” said Shuford.
When asked what part of the house is the most representative of her life, Shuford pointed towards her faith.
“My mother taught me to love and how to love,” said Shuford. “She also taught us that if you show love, you receive love back. And that's what I have done over the years.”
