Project Description

“I think the hard times make you appreciate the good times so much.”

Despite the challenges of farming, one family in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains has chosen remain close to the land, and to each other. Perry Lowe III and his family have been apple farmers at Perry Lowe Orchards in the foothills of Appalachia for generations. Over the years, members of the Lowe family have always returned to the farm, which they are proud to call their livelihood and their home.

When Perry Lowe III returned to the farm after graduating from North Carolina State University, he became the fifth generation to work there. Now his children have chosen to work alongside their father on the land. Family members work in the fields and in their roadside apple store selling everything from apples to hard cider running a 100 acre apple farm. Together, the Lowe family works year-round to harvest and sell the apples that mean everything to them.
