Rooted in Community

“Food is medicine.”

Annie Louise Perkinson founded Flying Cloud Farm in 1999 with her husband, Isaiah. Their small group works to grow many different types of vegetables and flowers. In addition to selling their produce at farmers’ markets, the farm boasts a roadside stand. Members of the community can stop at the stand and purchase plants and flowers using the honor system. It brings people together–Perkinson said, “it’s almost like they have a sense of ownership of it.” The pair built up farm structures as they went, adding a workshop, greenhouse, and more. Today, they work to make it possible for the people around them to have quality produce. “Food is medicine,” Perkinson said.
