WARNING SIGNS

Everybody deserves to know that it’s there. And nobody warned us

Lori first moved to Mooresville when she was seventeen, and it was the place in which she fell in love and started building a family. The trajectory of her life changed when in 2018 her son Aaron was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Lori started noticing a pattern when other younger people started getting diagnosed with rarer forms of cancer, so she started doing research. The Marshall Steam Station started burning coal in Sherril’s Ford, the neighboring town, in 1965. According to Lori there are records stating that the coal ash byproduct has been used as structural fill instead of soil all over town for years. With disproportionate cancer rates in Mooresville and surrounding areas, she believes the exposure to this substance is what made her son sick.
