On about 250 acres in Mt. Gilead North Carolina, Dale Thompson raises cattle on the rolling green Uwharrie hills that have been in his family for four generations.

Thompson is devoted to raising his cows humanely, giving them plenty of space to forage and eat grass, “the way nature’s meant to be” and going against the grain of corporate corn-fed beef.

“As long as I’ve got grass, rain, sunshine, the good lord looks after me, we’re in good shape.”
