Katie Ammann has a true passion for teaching music.
In 2011, the energetic young woman opened the music school of Roanoke Rapids. She loves seeing her students grow. “It’s not about being perfect, it’s about always being better than you were the day before.” She loves “to help people understand that life is about growth.”
Her school has students from various economic and racial backgrounds. She also provides free summer camps, free string classes and affordable private classes.
Following the closure of a prominent mill, downtown Roanoke Rapids has lost business’ in waves. “It’s really hard I think for a town to watch a lot of its favorite things go,” she said. She has devoted herself to rejuvenating the historic downtown by building community around music.
