David Burnett, farmer and jack-of-all-trades, embodies the self-sufficiency and hospitality characteristic of an earlier generation. Burnett’s family has lived in a cove outside of Canton, NC since the 1870s and has continued a tradition of working the land using old-fashioned methods for survival. Burnett’s preacher once said, “David was born 150 years too late.”
“People don’t realize they can make things. Somebody made it.”
