North Carolina State Senator Sam Joe Queen is a relatively new entrant to state-level politics.  He represents six Western Counties in one of the state’s most competitive districts.  Queen first won office in 2002, losing in 2004 before regaining his seat in 2006.  While the General Assembly is in session, Sunday through Thursday constitutes Queen’s legislative time in the state capital, while he spends most of his weekend campaigning and attending to local constituent issues. His schedule leaves little time for personal and family time, though Queen seems to relish the public life of a state senator. Queen waves to the crowd when he is recognized Saturday April 14 at the Eleventh Democratic Congressional District’s Liston B. Ramsey Spring Gala.  He attributed the boisterous applause to his hard-fought race in 2006.

“We live a nice private life and that is important.”

-Sam Joe Queen
