Every May, hundreds of thousands of people travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with one common interest: the passion to ride motorcycles. Two distinct bike weeks typically attract different people and different riders– with the Harley Davidson Spring Rally known as “White Bike Week” and the Memorial Day Atlantic Beach Bike Fest known as “Black Bike Week.” Both festivals have grown notorious for their wild parties, scantily-clad women, and “look at me” mentalities. Renee Green and Sharelle “Chyna” McCord, god sisters from Augusta, Georgia, capitalize on the men (and women) who are hungry to see skin, charging for photos and earning cash during their annual vacation. While much of Atlantic Beach Bike Week is about being seen and flaunting personal style, just as much is about seeing it for yourself, as people come from all over to witness the display of tricked-out cars and bikes and outrageous outfits. Atlantic Beach, where it all began almost 30 years ago, attracts motorcycle clubs and visitors with food, shopping, and live performances.
