From the 1600’s to early 20th century, the waterways of North Carolina were used to transport timber from the middle of the state to sawmills on the coast. Thousands of logs that were too dense to float sank. This “riverwood” is one of the few sources of old growth timber left in the world. Jesse Jarrell, the owner of Cape Fear Riverwood, has built a business around the recovery and milling of these rare logs.
