Project Description

“I think a lot of people stop moving and once you stop moving, you start dying.”

From rock climbing to mountain biking, Jim Horton is an adventure addict.  Horton is responsible for building the award winning mountain bike trails at the W. Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir known for their flow and banked turns.  Horton also builds trails to access bouldering and climbing spots all over the area.

At 50 years old, Horton still maintains his health and youthful desire for an adrenaline rush.  He believes that nature can change people and he hopes his trail building will provide access for everyone to experience the great outdoors.

In the past, Horton has experienced many legal battles to maintain access to the areas where he builds trails.  He started rock climbing when he was in college at Appalachian State University. During this time, Horton and his friends experienced areas being closed for liability reasons all over the region.  Horton hopes that by building trails the community can have more permanent access to the outdoor areas he grew to love. His goal is to bring the community together around outdoor activities.
